Do you have what it takes to make an impact on global food and nutrition security? We are looking for exceptional candidates to help drive forward our work to improve the lives of poor people. 

The Natural Resources Institute (NRI – https://www.nri.org/) of the University of Greenwich carries out specialised research, teaching, training and consultancy with a focus on food, agriculture, environment and sustainable livelihoods.   NRI also employs the Coordinator of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Agriculture and Food for Development (http://www.appg-agdev.co.uk) on behalf of the Group’s stakeholders.

The APPG on Agriculture and Food for Development (APPG AgDev) brings together Parliamentarians concerned with agriculture, nutrition and food security in the developing world. The APPG recognises that a vibrant, resilient and environmentally sustainable agricultural sector is key to development and that agriculture is one of the most effective tools to ensure economic, social and political well-being in developing countries.

NRI is currently expanding its interdisciplinary research excellence to address food and nutrition security, especially in Africa. This expansion is funded by UKRI’s Research England under the ‘Expanding Excellence in England’ scheme. Elements of this new investment include new staff, PhD studentships, infrastructure and partnerships (see www.nri.org/FanSI). 

NRI’s work is globally respected and has won many awards including two recent Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education. The Institute is located at the University’s vibrant Medway Campus in Chatham Maritime, Kent.

There are two aspects of this role, each supported from separate sources of funding:

1. Coordinator of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Food and Nutrition Security and Researcher for the Chair of the Group (indicatively 40%).
2. To undertake research on food and agriculture policy as part of NRI’s Food and Nutrition Security Initiative can be found at www.nri.org/FaNSI.   (Indicatively 60%). 

The successful candidate will have research/policy experience relevant to the post and subject matter of the APPG, relevant and recent high quality publications, ability to research, distil large amounts of complex information, and prepare briefing materials, excellent writing skills for a range of audiences and Good communication, networking and interpersonal skills.

 International travel is an expectation of this role.
