Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor (RAP)/Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 523846) (to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis or two-year fixed-term basis for RAP, or on a one- to two-year temporary basis for PDF, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)
The Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project is a territory-wide community project launched since 2019. The aim is to improve the oral health condition of children in Hong Kong through providing dental examination in kindergartens and strengthen the oral health knowledge and awareness of their caretakers. We are committed to the enhancement of public perception of the oral health of our children through research, education, and knowledge exchange activities, and we are seeking various talents and offer long-term development opportunities. Applicants should possess a relevant Ph.D. degree or equivalent qualifications with a distinguished research record in statistics, mathematical modelling, and data science. They should have an excellent track record in research with (i) proven ability for quality research, publications in high-quality international journals, evidence of local and regional recognition for scholarship; (ii) proven ability to conduct quality teaching and directing education programs; (iii) demonstrated participation in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) demonstrated ability in knowledge exchange activities. Those with lower qualifications or less experience may be considered for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow.
Applicants should also have excellent command of written and spoken English and Cantonese; be familiar with statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R, Stata) and MS Office applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); be organized and self-motivated; and have excellent communication skills. Experience in stakeholder management and leadership roles in the research team will be an advantage.
The appointee will conduct high-impact research related to Cariology. He/She will assist the Project-in-charge, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Professor C.H. Chu, to analyze existing secondary data and the project data to evaluate the outcomes of various interventions in establishing a multi-component service delivery model to prevent tooth decay in young children, and assess the benefits for the community. He/She will also collaborate closely with international and community experts in this area.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. For RAP, the appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
