Multiple faculty positions in the forthcoming Materials Innovation Institute for Life Sciences and Energy (MILES)

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is recruiting multiple outstanding scientists with strong potential for ground-breaking research in the broad areas of novel materials for biology, medicine, clean energy and sustainability, to join its forthcoming Materials Innovation Institute for Life Sciences and Energy (MILES).

MILES is a new endeavor of the University in collaboration with the Shenzhen Municipal Government, with Professor Hongjie Dai, a renowned chemist recently relocated from Stanford to the University as Chair Professor in the Department of Chemistry, as its founding Director.

The Positions

Applications are now invited for appointments at the rank of Full Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor at MILES, with prospect for tenure and possibility of joint appointments with other disciplinary/interdisciplinary Departments/Institutes at the University. We welcome outstanding candidates from diverse disciplines, including but not limited to the following areas of research:

• New materials design, synthesis, physics, chemistry and applications/devices
• Nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanomedicine
• Renewable energy, electrocatalysis, batteries
• Bio-physics, -chemistry and -engineering
• Biomedical sciences, engineering, and applications
• Computational/theoretical chemistry and physics

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a relevant research area, with proven excellence in teaching/research/service, and an outstanding track record in or strong potential for sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in his/her expertise area for research, scholarly publications and competitive external funding.  

What We Offer

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax in Hong Kong does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.  In addition, internationally competitive start-up, remuneration and benefits package will be offered by MILES.
