At TU Dresden, Faculty of Biology, Institute of Microbiology, the Chair of Molecular Biotechnology offers a project position as

Research Associate
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting from 01.05.2020. The position is limited for 36 months and entails 65% of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). 

The position is embedded in a collaborative research project with the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden aiming at the identification and employment of novel biocatalysts for selective polymer modification. 

Tasks: description and development of microbial enzymes as synthetic tools, particularly isolation, purification, characterisation, molecular modelling, design and immobilisation of proteins; isolation, genetic manipulation, cultivation and downstream processing of microbes (focus bacteria); enzymatic catalysis in aqueous and non-aqueous systems; chemical synthesis; analysis of low-molecular weight chemical compounds, e.g. with UV/VIS spectroscopy, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR; project scheduling and organisation; written and verbal communication.

Requirements: High ranked university degree (MSc, Dipl.) in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry or comparable courses; distinct research interest and strong self-motivation; basic theoretical and practical expertise in microbial biotechnology, biochemistry and analysis; deeper expertise in methods of molecular biotechnology, esp. enzyme technology; fluent English in spoken and written; ability to work creative and independently; above-average commitment and ability for team work; organisational skills and disposition for taking responsibility; commitment to the rules of good scientific practice.
