Position Summary

JSLH invites applicants for an Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor in the area of political philosophy, philosophy of law, and/or ethics. In addition to research endeavors, candidates will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and provide service to the University and Department. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester.

Teaching all levels of undergraduate Philosophy courses, including courses in logic, history of philosophy, ethics, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, Introduction to Political Philosophy et al; 2/2 (fall/spring) teaching load is required, In addition to teaching responsibilities, successful candidates will be required to make meaningful and substantive service contributions, including attending monthly departmental meetings, holding regular office hours, advising and mentoring students, and participating in other department, college, and university service at the discretion of the department. Willingness to undertake administration, if required, is a plus.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Philosophy with open specialization but teaching/research experience, commensurate with the seniority of the position, in either Analytical Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Political Philosophy or Ethics is preferred. Capacity to teach a wide range of undergraduate Philosophy courses is needed. Excellent teaching and communication skills, commitment to undergraduate education, and some scholarly activity required.
