Location: Smyths Toys, Corby

Salary:    Circa £30,000

This is a great opportunity to be involved in strategic and core development of Smyths Toys’ information systems. Smyths Toys is the largest toy retailer in UK/Ireland and is currently expanding in to Europe. You will lead an innovative project at the forefront of current practice in the application of Machine Learning to business forecasting.

This is an exciting project to research, design, develop and implement a new and innovative approach to sales volume prediction in the toy industry. You will require well-developed research skills to understand and critically evaluate current technology in key areas. In addition, you will need a willingness to engage with innovative approaches and develop insights into future trends and opportunities. The system represents an advance in technology, and will require you to work closely with existing staff across the company to assure the adoption of systems developed.

Qualifications we require: You should have a post-graduate qualification (MSc, MEng, or PhD) in Computer Science or a related discipline. Candidates with BSc/BEng plus demonstrable expertise and aptitude for the challenges of the project, will also be considered.

Knowledge and experience of the following is essential: Machine Learning, programming.

Experience of the following, whilst not essential, would be beneficial: Deep Learning, Sentiment Analysis, Image Processing, TensorFlow, Pytorch and Matlab.

You should have a good set of interpersonal skills including communication, organisational and problem solving and management skills. As well as technical and project skills you will require strong writing and presentation skills in order to communicate with an in-house steering group; to participate in business and industry events; and to contribute to the writing of academic papers.

The post-holder will receive supervision and support from experienced staff in the University's well-resourced Faculty of Engineering and Environment and report directly to senior management in Smyths Toys.
