Seeking Candidates with expertise in Animation and Games Design, and/or Physical Computing and Rapid Prototyping.

Located in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne; a vibrant city with numerous creative and cultural venues; the School of Design is a vibrant contributor as an ambitious, innovative centre for dynamic creative practice. Internationally recognised for its distinctive, immersive discipline-based approach to design education. Named one of Europe’s top design schools by US Business Week magazine and ranked 4th in the Guardian University Guide 2017 for Design and crafts, it has an international reputation, enjoying well-established collaborations with leading institutions and businesses.

Interaction Design at Northumbria enjoys an enviable reputation for producing outstanding designers with the timely blend of technical and creative skills that are highly sought-after in today’s high-tech job environment. We are looking to strengthen our already outstanding Interaction Design academic team with the appointment of highly talented individuals, who have excellent track records in contemporary design practice, ideally with teaching experience in the HE sector. We are looking for a candidate with requisite skills in Animation, Gaming, VR AND Physical Computing/Rapid Prototyping, or two 0.5 candidates, each with specific skills in one of these two areas. Applicants should specify which of these options they are applying for.

With a proven track record of professional experience demonstrated through a creative design portfolio, you will play a leading role in the delivery of teaching and learning within the Interaction Design subject discipline. This will be underpinned by your research and professional experience as an Interaction Design academic or practitioner, with expertise in the areas of Animation, Gaming and VR environments and/or Physical Computing and Rapid Prototyping. We are seeking a candidate with the vision to respond creatively to current design issues and the aptitude to broaden your knowledge through academic practice.

Contributing a high level of creative expertise across the Communication Design undergraduate and postgraduate related programmes, you will be an inspirational teacher and be committed to the development and enhancement of the School’s research agenda and global reputation. You will also actively contribute to maintaining existing and forging new links with industry, external organisations and the education sector in the UK and internationally.
