We are a progressive, dynamic and innovative institution with genuine global ambition.
When you join Northumbria be prepared to be part of one of the largest and most ambitious universities in the UK. Awarded the title of University of the Year in the 2022 Times Higher Education Awards we are proud to be a research intensive, modern university with a global reputation for academic excellence.
Northumbria can trace its origins back to Rutherford College in late 19th Century Newcastle. More than 130 years on, Northumbria is empowering a new generation of innovators, visionaries and change-makers to transform lives, to make a remarkable impact on the world, and to take on tomorrow.
Northumbria is one of the largest universities in the UK, with more than 37,000 students from 137 countries and over 3,000 staff. The University is based in three of the best student cities, Newcastle, London and Amsterdam, where Northumbria opened its campus in 2018. Our London Campus is one of the largest satellite campuses in the capital; our Amsterdam Campus, in partnership with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, increased student numbers, expanded the number and range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and research collaborations over the last year, despite the challenges of Brexit and the pandemic. This is one of the many developments that has seen Northumbria continue to build its reputation as one of the UK’s most ambitious and fast-moving universities. Northumbria has a growing international presence, with partners in Singapore, Indonesia, China, Qatar, the Caribbean and beyond.
Ranked in the UK top 50 (Guardian University League Table 2022 and Complete University Guide 2023), Northumbria recorded the biggest rise of any UK university for research power in the Research Excellence Framework for the second time in 2021 and is now rated within the top 25 in the UK.
Northumbria offers a transformative educational experience in a research-rich learning environment that empowers students to achieve their full academic potential while providing them with the skills they require for life beyond university.
We know our people are our power.
