Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Science Bio-Physics, Dr. Azam Gholami

Applications are invited for a fully-funded Postdoctoral associate position in the multidisciplinary group of Prof. Azam Gholami at New York University Abu Dhabi. The appointed candidate will be expected to work in one/more of the following experimental projects in the field of flagellated and ciliated micro-swimmers:

• Characterization of ciliary-driven fluid flows.
• Flagellar waveform and swimming dynamics.
• Hydrodynamics of flagellar swimming and synchronization
• Pattern formation and influence of external perturbations.
• Bioconvection
• Actin Dynamics

We seek a highly qualified candidate with a strong experimental background in working with biological model organisms, optical microscopy, high-speed particle image velocimetry (PIV), particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), and data analysis. Applicants should also have a strong track record of original research in the relevant topics. Previous work experience with flagellated micro-swimmers is ideal and microfluidic skills as well as programming skills in MATLAB, python or C/C++ is highly appreciated. The appointed candidate will be expected to perform experiments with Dictyostelium discoideum and various ciliated micro-swimmers including (but not limited to) Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Spermatozoa and  Paramecium.

Applicants must have a PhD in (bio)physics or a related field. This position is not located in the United States and the applicant must be willing to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
