66 New faculty, including Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, join NYUAD

In Fall 2022, NYU Abu Dhabi welcomed 66 accomplished and internationally diverse scholars to conduct innovative research and teach our students. The new members of the community hail from 20 different countries and earned their degrees and held positions at the world's most accomplished institutions, including Harvard University, University of Oxford, The National University of Singapore, and Stanford University, among others.

The new joiners include Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, a Nigerian playwright, poet, and political activist who has won international acclaim. Considered one of contemporary Africa’s greatest writers, Soyinka is a towering figure in world literature whose scholarship encompasses drama, poetry, fiction, music, film, and memoir. Professor Soyinka is the first Nobel prize winner to join the NYUAD faculty.

The 66 faculty members begin their NYUAD careers working across the NYUAD academic disciplines, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects.  Their research includes ballet, coding robots to dance, and the recreation of an entire human body within one singular device, among other topics. Detailed information about the new NYUAD faculty can be found here.
