McNally School of Fine Arts

Named after our founder the late Brother Joseph McNally, the School offers contemporary practice and research-based programmes at the Diploma, BA(Hons) and MA levels. It is focused on redefining the milieu of artistic research dedicated to Southeast Asia, and our position in the world of contemporary art.

From sculpture, printmaking, drawing, installation and photography to technology-based art, performance art, interdisciplinary art, as well as critical studies in art history and art theory, our programmes are imbued with an innovative and interdisciplinary structure, designed to provide students with a transformative learning experience that awakens their artistic potential and develops critical rigour.

This is bolstered by the mutual interaction between the School’s different programmes, which creates a dynamic environment that foments a symbiosis of theory and practice.

Our staff of renowned practitioners have been represented in world-class exhibitions such as Venice Biennale, Asia-Pacific Triennial, Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art, APB Foundation Signature Art Prize, Documenta (International Workshop for Art Academies), and Singapore Biennale, they bring vast and diverse learning experiences into the studio and classroom.

Puttnam School of Film & Animation

The media landscape today is complex, and it will only grow more challenging in the future. To succeed in this dynamic, fast-changing industry, students will need to excel in a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment by utilising and integrating a wide range of emerging technologies. Students will also need to demonstrate a thorough and versatile understanding of the impact of these technologies on art and culture.

The degrees in Animation Art and Film, together with the diplomas in Animation and Broadcast Media offered by the Puttnam School of Film & Animation, are designed to meet these rigorous demands. The School provides industry-standard facilities, regular masterclasses conducted by seasoned practitioners, mentorships by established artist-educators, and strategic partnerships with creative heavyweights. They are designed to prepare students for a competitive employment market.

Our students’ films across all programmes stand as a testament to the high standards of the School’s namesake – Academy Award-winning film producer Lord David Puttnam – and have been showcased and won awards globally at events such as the Festival Internacional de Animacion, Digicon Animation and Film Awards (Singapore) and European Union Film Festival.

School of Creative Industries

Run an art gallery. Lead a community arts project. Produce festivals and films. Provide art therapy. The scope of the arts and creative industries is broader than one can imagine. The School of Creative Industries is for those keen on playing a part in developing and expanding these burgeoning sectors.

School of Design Communication

Visual communication is essential to civilised cultures and societies. In the School of Design Communication, students learn to shape words and create iconic imagery, signs and symbols that help people connect with one another. 

Understand contemporary visual culture and equip yourself with multi-disciplinary conceptual thinking skills. An appropriate balance between academic components and studio-based learning methods will ensure a good grasp of theoretical knowledge and give students the opportunity to hone their intellectual and creative thought processes by “thinking through making”. 

The wide range of knowledge and experience will enable students to engage in the industry in many capacities, opening the door to a slew of career options and in an increasing number of corporate and social sectors.

School of Fashion

It all begins at LASALLE’s School of Fashion where a journey just might take one to the fashion capitals of Paris, Milan, London, New York and Tokyo. 

Choose from a Diploma in Fashion or BA(Hons) degree programmes comprising Fashion Design and Textiles, and Fashion Media and Industries. Tailored to meet the demands and challenges of the dynamic fashion industry, the School emphasises the contrasting design practices of the creative industries in the region and beyond. 

The Degree and Diploma programmes focus on the cross-disciplinary nature of the varied fashion specialisms, while equipping students with specialist skills in a specific fashion discipline to enhance knowledge and understanding.

School of Spatial and Product Design

Our BA(Hons) degree programmes in Interior Design and Product Design, as well as Diploma programme in Interior Design explore design processes and conceptual thinking methodologies in a practice-based studio environment that encourages creativity and hands-on learning. This is supported by instruction in core discipline skills such as a critical understanding of design history, contemporary theories and technical knowledge.

The programmes emphasise an awareness of the changing landscape of design, and how it is impacted by contextual, social, economic and environmental factors. Students will gain valuable insights into what makes good design.

Upon graduation, students can make their mark in the world of design within the plethora of interior design and architectural practices, as well as furniture and product design firms in both commercial and domestic sectors. Our graduates have found their place in numerous reputable firms or have successfully established their own practices locally and internationally.

School of Contemporary Music

The School of Contemporary Music’s suite of programmes in contemporary music performance, composition and audio production is designed to develop one’s potential as a musician, singer, songwriter or audio production technician in the popular and commercial market, as well as the experimental and cutting edge. 

Students can hone their craft through real performances at the College’s well-equipped studios and theatre venues. And expand their knowledge with specialist practical and theory lessons in their chosen instrument or field of study. 

By making technology an integral part of their practice, the School will ensure that students are constantly in touch with the latest industry demands. With LASALLE's strategic location in Southeast Asia, students will have the unique opportunity to experience a melding of cultures and network with visiting international musicians, composers and producers. 

Music diploma graduates leave as confident, well-rounded musicians able to perform in a range of musical situations; while Audio Production diploma holders will be competent in all aspects of music production including large-scale theatre, live music and recording. 

In the BA(Hons) Music programme, there are five specialisations to choose from: Pop, Jazz, Classical, Composition or Electronic Music. Some of the distinctive features of this comprehensive course include the teaching of recording techniques to all students, improvisation techniques for Classical Performance, and an emphasis on developing students to be independent, creative musicians ready to take on postgraduate studies or the role of influential leader in the music industry.

School of Dance & Theatre

Offering BA(Hons) programmes for Acting and Musical Theatre, as well as Diplomas in Dance, Performance, and Technical and Production Management, the School of Dance & Theatre takes students on a personal learning journey, nurturing the talent of today into the leading arts professionals of tomorrow.

Cosmopolitan and cutting edge, the School’s ethos focuses on contemporary performance, actively engaging with technologies and practices that encourage experimentation. Coupled with the School’s location in the heart of Southeast Asia, students will be exposed to a rich variety of performance cultures from around the region.

During their course of studies, students will learn through rehearsal processes under the direction of LASALLE staff, local and international visiting directors, choreographers and music directors. Their learning journey culminates in performances at the College’s professionally-equipped theatre venues, as well as film and recording studios. Students can also look forward to gaining real-world experience through the development of new works in conjunction with industry partners.

Upon graduation, not only will students be technically proficient, but also a collaborative, critical thinker capable of working across disciplines and media as an artist and entrepreneur.
