Job description
The purpose of the role is to provide specialist Periodic, Reactive and General cleaning services at King’s College London across all campus and residential locations. Members of the Periodic Cleaning Team are responsible for conducting regularly scheduled PPM (Periodically Planned Maintenance) tasks as well as reactive/emergency cleans to carpets, hard floors, fabric and upholstery, toilets, shower rooms, external areas and any other planned tasks set by the management team.
This team operates during nights only, 7 days a week. Full time staff will work 5 nights a week on a rota basis.
This post will be offered on an indefinite contract
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent
Key responsibilities
- To conduct regularly scheduled PPM (Periodically Planned Maintenance) tasks as well as reactive and emergency cleans to carpets, hard floors, fabric and upholstery, toilets/shower rooms, external areas and any other planned tasks set by the management team. Tasks include buffing, mechanical scrubbing, carpet cleaning – extraction, bonnet method, burnishing, pressure washing, stripping and sealing of floors, general deep cleans, room sanitization, window cleaning
- General cleaning within washroom areas to include but not limited to sinks, floors, showers, toilet stalls and urinals. To also replenish all washroom items and ensure an acceptable level of consumables are always readily available
- General cleaning to welfare facilities (student and staff) kitchens and kitchenettes to include but not limited to floors, sinks, waste removal, dishwashing (staff areas where specifically instructed) and replenishing consumable items
- General cleaning to classrooms, Labs, offices and meeting room areas to include but not limited to vacuuming, cleaning desks, dusting and leaving the area to an acceptable level of cleanliness for the day ahead
- General cleaning to communal areas (receptions, stair, cores, entrances and corridors) to include but not limited to hard floor cleaning via mopping or machinery, dusting, vacuuming/sweeping
- General cleaning to external areas to include but not limited to sweeping, mopping, machinery use, waste removal and attending to reactive tasks
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager
- All tasks must be carried out in accordance with the King’s Method Statements, with a thorough understanding of COSHH and Health and Safety Awareness required to conduct all tasks

- Your place of work at King’s College shall be the work location specified by your Manager/Supervisor. KCL reserves the right to move you to a different location within the building on a temporary or permanent basis. The company also reserves the right to move you to a different KCL Campus.

Skills, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Good English language communication skills, including the ability to understand and respond to instructions both written and verbal
- Good customer service skills with an understanding of customer expectations and how these can be met
- Good knowledge of specialist cleaning techniques – carpet cleaning, floor treatment
- Extensive cleaning experience with both equipment and machinery
- Good understanding of COSHH
- Good understanding of safe working practices
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
- Good teamwork skills
Desirable criteria
- BICs Licence to practice
- Cleaning related qualifications
- First Aid
- IOSH – Working Safely
- Full UK Driving Licence
