Assistant Professor in English Creative Writing (PR339/17-18)

The Department of Humanities and Creative Writing is now inviting applications for an assistant professorship in English Creative Writing.  The appointee is expected to teach a range of introductory and upper level broad-based, writing and interdisciplinary core courses in the Department.  Preferable teaching and research topics include some of the following: fictional writing, speculative fiction genre (including science fiction, fantasy, horror, detective fiction), experimental narrative forms, multimedia writing, video-game narrative, audio/digital storytelling, and/or digital literature.

Other responsibilities include related research and publication, and supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate theses.  Dedication to excellence in teaching as well as research is essential, as is commitment to work in a bilingual and bicultural setting.  Service to the Programme/Department/Faculty/University is also required.

The Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, the home of (i) Humanities Programme and (ii) Creative and Professional Writing Programme, incorporates a bilingual, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural curriculum that develops and sustains the whole person education mission of Hong Kong Baptist University.  The Creative and Professional Writing Programme is the first UGC-funded undergraduate programme in Hong Kong dedicated to creative and professional writing learning in both Chinese and English languages.  The appointee will be expected to teach courses in writing and other humanities fields, and will participate fully in our department while also helping us to build and envision an innovative future in our writing programme.

Applicants should possess a relevant PhD degree (not necessarily in Creative Writing), with sound research and refereed publication record, and teaching experience at tertiary level.  

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2018.  Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. 

Remuneration package includes retirement/gratuity benefits, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, housing assistance and relocation allowance wherever appropriate.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
