The Department of History is looking for qualified candidates to fill multiple tenure-track positions at the ranks of Assistant Professor.  In addition to the expertise associated with each position, candidates should exhibit the following attributes:

  • Hold a PhD in history or a related subject, with teaching and research experience in the higher education sector;
  • Have a solid publication record with an active research agenda;
  • Possess expertise in any historical sub-fields, preferably in the following areas:
    • Early Imperial China
    • Mid Imperial China
    • Global/Transnational/Comparative History
    • History of the United State of America
    • Europe before the Middle Ages
    • Europe during and before the Renaissance
    • Digital History
    • Museum & Heritage Studies;
  • Able to deliver some of the following courses and other occasional courses offered as topic studies:
    • China in the Imperial Age
    • Early Imperial China
    • Mid Imperial China
    • Late Imperial China
    • Inter-Asian Contacts and the Invention of Everyday Cultures
    • Historical Interaction of China and the World
    • History, Heritage and Human Communities
    • World History: Civilisations in Contact 
    • Information Technologies and Quantitative Methods for Historical Studies
  • Having a previous successful research grant record would be an advantage.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing from September 2024.  Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
