Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is looking for a visionary leader who will play a key role in providing the best student experience as stipulated in the University’s 10-year Strategic Plan.

The University

Founded in 1956, the University seeks to be a leading research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world delivering academic excellence in a caring, creative and global culture. The University has a student population of around 11,000 and a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes up to the PhD level. Currently the University has an academic and teaching staff strength of about 1,000. Beyond Hong Kong, the University has a joint campus with Beijing Normal University running a unique liberal arts college in Zhuhai, the United International College, as well as research centres in other parts of China.

The Role

Reporting to the Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), the Associate Vice-President (Student Experience) will be responsible for the overall leadership in student development to enable students to achieve the desired graduate attributes and accomplish the University’s strategic targets in providing the best student learning experience. The role includes overseeing the co-curriculum, student affairs, student wellness, leadership development, student liaison and staff development in the related areas.

The Person

The appointee should be a visionary leader with profound knowledge and experience in promoting student learning and development, as well as the contemporary teaching and learning methodologies. He/She must have demonstrable leadership ability and a strong track record in innovating and successfully implementing policies in promoting student development at a progressive university, meeting the needs of the students of today and beyond, and working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills, and passion for students are necessary.

Initial appointment will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years, which will be renewable subject to mutual agreement. The University offers a competitive salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, including retirement/gratuity benefits of up to 15% of basic salary, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, and cash allowance where appropriate and in accordance with the terms and conditions then applicable at the time of offer.
