The National Institute for Digital Learning (NIDL) at Dublin City University (DCU) aims to be a world leader at the forefront ofeducation, research and innovation in contemporary models of teaching and learning that help transform lives and societies. The NIDL has three related strategic missions: (i) to support professional development and the redesign of academic programmes that harness the affordances of digital learning; (ii) to lead and manage a suite of fully online degree programmes and leading-edge short courses through our DCU Connected platform and global partnership with FutureLearn; and (iii) to conduct, enable and disseminate world-class research which focuses on many of the big issues and questions facing educators in uncertain times.
The NIDL brings together a unique team of leading academics and respected educational practitioners who can supervisor advanced postgraduate research and provide specialist consultancy services from Early Childhood Education (ECE) through to new models of Higher Education (HE). We have particular expertise in the areas of learning design, online education, teaching enhancement, policy development, and the successful pedagogical and technical implementation of rich digital learning environments on an enterprise-wide scale.
Our staff are highly-regarded nationally and internationally and play valuable leadership roles within relevant professional bodies, including the European Distance and e-Learning Network (EDEN), the European Association for Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), and the Irish Learning Technology Association (ILTA).
Staff serve on some of the leading journal editorial boards in the field and are frequently invited to give keynote presentations at professional conferences and events. The NIDL is well connected to other leading research and academic development centres around the world and a group of highly acclaimed and leading scholars in the area serve on the NIDL’s International Advisory Board.
