De Montfort University (DMU) is one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic Higher Education institutions. With a state-of-the-art campus located in the heart of bustling and metropolitan Leicester, the University has a clear and ambitious strategy that is heavily flavoured by a global outlook, and links with local communities. DMU’s recent Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework demonstrates the success of the hard work undertaken to date, as does its position within the 20 best Universities for career prospects, and its rating within the Times Higher Education’s top 150 modern Universities in the world.

The School of Engineering and Sustainable Development is located within the University’s Faculty of Technology which will soon be led by Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor David Mba. It is host to nearly 900 students who are spread across a range of engineering and sustainable development disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Teaching is characterised by a sound focus upon industrial experience, as well as the development of a supportive yet challenging environment for students at all levels. There is a lively research culture that is structured around a suite of research centres with strong leadership and clear objectives.

The role of Head of School provides crucial leadership and oversight to these activities, and whilst the School should be congratulated upon its achievement to date, DMU remains ambitious in its pursuit for yet stronger outcomes for students, research-activities, and scholarship alike. As such, high-calibre candidates are sought who will have the personal credibility and track record to lead a diverse cohort of staff in this highly aspirant and dynamic environment. Integral to this will be an appreciation of DMU’s Global outlook and of course its position within the City of Leicester.
