Associate/Assistant Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies (Ref:DHSS201007)

Job Description 

The program of Media and Communication Studies (MCOM) at UIC invites applications from student-centered scholar-practitioners broadly trained in one or more of the following fields: 1) journalism; 2) digital media; and 3) media literacy. We welcome candidates with relevant work experience and research interests in digital and multimedia production. There are opportunities to develop innovative pedagogy and collaborative research.

Job Requirement 

All applicants should have over 5 years of experience in the industry and hold a at least an M.A. or M.F.A. in journalism, media production, or a related field. Proficiency in media production hardware and software (i.e. Adobe Premier Pro, Audition, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator) essential. Other requirements include a firm commitment to teaching and tutoring students. Teaching responsibilities of 2-3 courses per semester may include courses related to journalism, video production, documentary production, multimedia production, digital media, and others of the applicant’s own interests. Practical experience in news media or the digital media production industry will be an added asset. Preference will be given to candidates who can also undertake original research leading to high-quality outcomes.

 

Appointment Terms

Appointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Commencing salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave and social insurance. Continuation of appointment beyond the initial term will be subject to mutual agreement.
