The University invites applications for the above post which is tenable initially for up to 24 months, starting as soon as possible. Extension is likely subject to the progress of the projects.
You will join a large research team focusing on 1) development of ceramic composites for nuclear applications and 2) development of thermal barrier and environmental barrier coatings for aero engine applications. These projects will involve close collaboration with industry, for example, Rolls-Royce and research organisations, for example, National Nuclear Laboratory. The research will be initially focused mostly on ceramic processing, and then the study will be carried out on characterisation and performance of ceramic composites and coatings produced in Manchester. Such ceramics are expected to be stable in harsh environment at high temperature, so degradation mechanisms of the ceramics at high temperature will be investigated.
