The University of Manchester wishes to appoint to the post of Professor of Clinical Trial Statistics and Director/Co-Director of Manchester CTU (depending upon relevant experience). This is a leadership role, key to progressing and developing the strategy for the expansion of the Manchester CTU and part of a major initiative to both develop clinical trials capacity and to expand and strengthen methodological research and training within the Faculty. The post holder will join the Centre for Biostatistics located in the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care.

The University together with Health Innovation Manchester through the Manchester CTU wish to increase the volume and quality of trials conducted in Manchester, to increase income from government grants, charities and industry, to increase the number of internationally leading trials publications and to make a significant beneficial impact on patient and population health. Health Innovation Manchester is committed to substantial investments into the development of a Greater Manchester-wide clinical trials coordination unit – capable of providing world-class randomised controlled trials throughout the whole spectrum of medical, clinical and health services research. This post will have a key role in leading these developments.

The postholder will also have an academic base in the Centre for Biostatistics as Professor of Clinical Trial Statistics. The Centre engages in research into statistical methods arising from collaborative research undertaken with colleagues across the Faculty and has developed an international reputation for innovative statistical research, excellent teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration. The postholder would be expected to further this work integrating methodological with collaborative research according to their areas of expertise.

Candidates will have an outstanding track record in published research and grant awards along with extensive knowledge of clinical trials, epidemiological methods and health services research. Candidates will be able to show a track record in clinical trials design and delivery. An international reputation evidenced by, for example, journal editorial and grant awarding board membership is essential for appointment at this level.
