Human Resources Generalist
Provide consultation to Duke Health Technology Solutions (DHTS) management and staff in a variety of Human Resources functions, to include: work culture, performance management, employee relations, benefits, compensation, training & development, recruitment, process improvement, and staff recognition.
This position reports to the Divisional Human Resources Manager and will provide HR consultation services to assigned customer groups within DHTS. The HR Generalist will also play a critical role in the planning, implementation and coordination of DHTS HR programs and initiatives that support organizational strategic objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level Advise and assist management and employees with departmental human resources activities, including values-based recruitment/interviewing and hiring, job classification and salary administration, interpretation of personnel policies, employee relations, leaves of absences, performance management, recognition, work culture, benefits, and training and development.
Serve as the main DHTS HR liaison to Central HR/Recruitment. Execute DHTS recruitment planning activities, build effective relationships with relevant colleges and universities, source and hire candidates for hard to fill positions, and represent DHTS in career fairs and other recruitment events.
Partner with management and staff to diagnose work culture issues, develop strategies to address them, and provide guidance in implementing solutions.
Establish, cultivate, and maintain ongoing relationships with key managers in order to understand those business units and their HR needs.
Attend departmental staff meetings to acquire substantial knowledge about the department’s business objectives, goals, operations, and work culture.
Respond to employee concerns by interpreting applicable HR policies and procedures and making appropriate recommendations, including suggestions on policy clarification and/or development and delivery of training.
Use HR knowledge and experience to analyze issues and provide useful answers. Identify problem employee relations areas that impede organizational progress; recommend appropriate interventions and/or other corrective action as needed.Develop DHTS leaders to function at a stronger level within current roles and facilitate succession planning. Demonstrate a focus on diversity, helping the organization become more diverse at all levels.
Formulate reports to explore data, analyze trends that require intervention, and develop and implement solutions. This would include areas such as labor spending, hiring and retention, projected work force growth, organizational restructuring, and HR service metrics. Work collaboratively with colleagues from central Human Resources and other Duke entities to research issues and develop recommendations that provide strong support to DHTS and Duke as a whole.
Evaluate and research professional trends and issues. Make recommendations to HR colleagues and operational management for strategic program initiatives, and develop and deliver training in an effort to create and maintain a model work place.
Assist with other HR activities as needed, to include payroll and benefits processing, management and staff communications, events planning and implementation, DHTS New Hire Orientation, and other HR programs/initiatives designed to address work culture issues.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required. HR certification preferred.
Requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in Human Resources specialist or generalist roles.
Experience in recruiting, training and development, and/or career counseling preferred.
A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
