Assistant or Associate Professor of Latin Language and Literature

Position Description

The Department of the Classics seeks to appoint a tenure-track or tenured professor in Latin language and literature of the Republic and/or Empire. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2019.

We seek a committed scholar pursuing a vigorous program of research, and a comparably committed teacher dedicated to nurturing students at both the undergraduate and graduate level and promoting the understanding and appreciation of Latin studies within the institution and beyond.

Interview Process: Short-listed candidates at the tenure-track level will be interviewed at the annual meeting of the Society for Classical Studies in San Diego, January 3–6. Finalists at both levels will be invited to Harvard for campus visits in February and March.

Basic Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Classics or related discipline is required by the time the appointment begins.

2. Curriculum Vitae, including a full list of publications and work in progress.
3. Teaching statement of no more than 2 pages.
4. Research statement of no more than 2 pages.
5. Candidates for a tenure-track position are required to submit a writing sample of 5,000–7,000 words.
