Job description

Position as postdoctoral research fellow available at Department of Chemistry/Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology.

Electrochemistry plays vital roles in sustainable energy conversion technologies. The present project, FUndamentals of Surface Kinetics in high temperature Electrochemistry (FUSKE), addresses the understanding of the kinetics of gas-solid reactions at the surface of electrodes and electrolytes of fuel cells and electrolysers, and gas separation membranes with the aim to develop fundamental mechanistic insight of the rate determining processes. The project is financed through the FRIPRO program of the Research Council of Norway.

In FUSKE an array of experimental and computational approaches will be implemented. These will include standard electrochemical characterization methodologies, use of mass spectroscopy, electron microscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry and other spectroscopy based methodologies, and computational approaches (e.g. DFT and molecular dynamic simulations).

The post doc is expected to take a leading role in contributing to and coordinating the research within these areas together with the team of principal investigators. The successful candidate will collaborate with members of other complementary projects in an international context. Some instrumental operation and maintenance tasks must be expected.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in inorganic, physical, or materials chemistry, preferably with experience and specialization in defects and/or transport in functional oxides at elevated temperatures. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.

The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:
Experience in high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and/or secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), as well as computational methods (DFT) will be prioritized.

Knowledge of advanced synthesis and fabrication methodologies for thin films and catalytically active surfaces is of advantage.

The person employed will collaborate extensively with researchers from other complementary projects and good command of English, good collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to take initiative, will be emphasized during the evaluation of the applicants.
