Head of Media Arts and Communication
Home to a team of 60 academics and 1,400 students, the Department of Media Arts and Communication (MAC) has a vibrant research community, an excellent record of student employability and strong links with the creative industries locally and beyond.
Sheffield is increasingly being identified as a centre for creative media and digital industries, in keeping with the city's tradition of making and creativity. The Sheffield Institute of Arts (SIA) - of which MAC is a central part - started life in 1843 as one of Britain’s first training schools for industrial artists and designers. Today, as an art school for the 21st century, SIA retains a good deal of that traditional “art school” ethos and purpose, but with a wider, more critical agenda.
As head of the department you'll utilise your professional creative media background and networks to help the department maximise its potential. Outward facing, with a deep understanding of the higher education and creative media landscapes, you’ll be dedicated to building connections and partnerships that put MAC at the forefront of media arts and communication education and research.
We're also looking for someone with:
- The capability to provide effective academic leadership and people management.
- A commitment to excellence in student experience and a pioneering approach in innovation in learning and teaching.
- A significant personal academic profile.
Ideally you'll also have a PhD in a relevant field, although this isn't essential.
