Assistant Professor in Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor with research interests in the field of synthetic chemistry, particularly (although not limited to) soft matter or functional molecules, to complement or extend existing research activities within the Department.
Durham Chemistry is one of the very best UK chemistry departments with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students. The Department was Ranked 5th overall in REF2014 in terms of grade point average and 1st for impact. Our research is centred on three core themes, Manufacturing the Future, Bio-economy and New Materials, all of which are truly global challenges with the potential to generate significant economic and social impact. To support these themes researchers with common interests and complementary skills are clustered together in Research Groupings: Bioactive Chemistry and Synthesis; Catalysis and Sustainable Chemical Processes; Computational and Dynamics; Functional Molecules and Materials; Physical Organic and Assembly; and Soft Matter and Interfaces.
Durham Chemistry is committed to research-led teaching and offers a challenging and diverse RSC accredited course. Nationally the education experience is very well received and the Department routinely features high in national league tables and is 3rd in the Complete University Guide 2019. Durham Chemistry was 6th in the NSS for overall student experience.
