Job Description

The Sr. Application Administrator and Team Lead (Sr. Analyst, IT) position reports to Assistant Director, IT, Enterprise Systems and Support – Departmental Applications. Responsible for routine support and maintenance of information technology within Departmental Applications. Under moderate supervision, performs activities necessary to the administration of Linux and Windows Operating Systems and Applications.  Activities include but not limited to; localized system administration support and integration; installation and configuration of servers; installation and configuration of operating systems; application support for 3rd party enterprise applications; application support for various departmental systems; ensuring standards and procedures are maintained for all computing services provided by OIT.

Education:

BA/BS in mathematics, computer science or equivalent technical experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor ticketing system queues and efficiently resolve assigned tasks
  • Perform activities to ensure Windows operating environment meets customer and OIT service expectations
  • Support departmental application systems; including Point-of-Sale (POS), Security, Web, Financial, Blackboard, and other 3rd party enterprise applications
  • Develop data integration and interfacing tools where applicable
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 application support
  • Act as the point of contact with all 3rd party venders and assist in their resolution when needed
  • Work with internal OIT departments in support of Database, Development, Identity Management, Network, and System needs where necessary
  • Adhere to security policies as it relates to Payment Card Industry (PCI), Human Resource data, and Student rights (FERPA)
  • Assist in development of mechanisms to improve overall management of controlled resources; including security and Antivirus, enterprise backups, performance monitoring, change control, administrative scripting, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance to projects
  • Assist in development, maintenance, and implementation of Policies and Procedures and ensure resources conform to accepted policies
  • Provides technical leadership, direction and coordination of tasks on OIT projects and working groups
  • Team Lead responsibilities that require:
    • Meeting with team members for daily/weekly tasks and updates
    • Attending team lead and technical meetings
    • Assisting with annual review processes
    • Daily support contact for clients, customers, and OIT
    • Attending leadership training

Soft Skills:

  • Experience in fast-paced customer-centric environments
  • Ability to work effectively in team-oriented environments
  • Experience working in a mission critical data center preferred
  • Strong Customer Service and documentation skills necessary
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, meets deadlines for diverse customer base, and has ability to develop strong working relationships with internal managers and external vendors
  • Strong problem analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies and software
  • Willingness to provide emergency support off-hours when necessary
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Technical Requirements:

  • TCP/IP Networking: topology, protocols, and services (TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Microsoft’s Active Directory, SQL Server, and IIS platforms
  • Microsoft Certification(s) preferred; MAC OS and VMWare a plus

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years hands-on experience in Windows and Linux systems and applications
  • Experience with supporting multiple business application systems required
  • Knowledge of POS systems and hardware a plus
  • Entry-level management skillset of a team of technical staff
  • Experience with success planning and review processes
