Director, Centre for Crop Science
The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a research institute of the University of Queensland (UQ), supported by the Queensland Government (Department of Agriculture and Fisheries).
As one of the few research-intensive universities worldwide located in a subtropical environment, UQ is a global leader in agriculture and food science research in subtropical and tropical production systems.
Agriculture-related research at UQ is consistently ranked among the best in the world.
QAAFI’s vision is to improve the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of tropical and subtropical food, fibre and agribusiness industries.
The Centre for Crop Science conducts world-leading research targeting enhanced profitability and sustainability of cereal and legume cropping systems in tropical and sub-tropical environments.
We pursue excellence in crop science at molecular, whole plant, and production system levels. Our integrated research capabilities include crop genetics, physiology, and modelling, along with soil science and weed biology. We work closely with industry and government, and seek synergies to meet challenges in crop science at a national and international level.

The role’s primary focus is the strategic direction of the Centre and the responsibilities include research leadership, guidance and stewardship of research theme leaders and working with the Institute Director and the other Centre Directors to establish strategic directions and priorities for the Institute as well as the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
We are looking for a leader who will have a passion and energy to continue to grow the Centre. You must be dedicated to excellence and leadership of the Centre, ensuring skills and capabilities evolve to keep pace with emerging knowledge needs.
You will engage effectively beyond the Centre; within QAAFI, the University and with key stakeholders nationally and internationally. Effective engagement with Government bodies and Industry is essential.
You will have an international reputation in the field of crop science and demonstrated experience in a management role. An ability to secure funding in a University environment and/or the public or private sector is essential.
