The Institute of German Studies [Germanistisches Institut] within the Faculty of Philosophy II at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg invites applications for the

Professorial Chair (W-2) in General and Comparative Literature  

to be filled as of 1 Oct. 2018.

The successful candidate will teach and do research across the whole spectrum of Comparative Literary Studies and demonstrate a special interest in Literature and Culture of the Comprehensive 18th Century and the Present Time.

S/he is expected to teach and participate in all courses of study at the German Department. Moreover, s/he is to take an active part in the course "Intercultural Studies of Europe and America" (IKEAS) and cooperate with other disciplines teaching languages and literatures and the social sciences. Active collaboration in the following key fields of research is particularly desirable: "Enlightenment – Religion – Knowledge", "Society and Culture in Motion" (SCM) and various interdisciplinary centers of academic research the faculty is involved in.

The new colleague is supposed to be experienced in campaigning for external funds and be willing to help strengthen existing cooperations with international partner universities and promote new ones. S/he is supposed to make a contribution to developing further the German Department in the direction of making German Studies an international and intercultural discipline.

In addition, the successful candidate's responsibilities include those requirements detailed in § 34 of the legislation governing higher education in Saxony-Anhalt (§ 34 Hochschulgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt) (teaching, examining, counseling). Applicants must meet the requirements for an appointment outlined in § 35 of the legislation governing higher education in Saxony-Anhalt (§ 35 Hochschulgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt). A Habilitation or postdoctoral achievements of the same standard and a proven record of educational talent are part of the job requirements.
