Reporting to the Vice-President, University Research, the Associate Vice-President, Innovation has oversight responsibility for innovation broadly across campus. This includes provision of strong leadership to Waterloo’s Innovation Ecosystem Council, which comprises several of Waterloo’s functional groups with innovation mandates as well as external partners. The AVP will be accountable for the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive, pan-campus innovation strategy that will integrate innovation initiatives. Using their exceptional leadership and integrative skills, the Associate Vice-President, Innovation will enhance strategic research alliances with private- and public-sector partners looking to innovate, enhance knowledge translation leading to commercialization of innovative technologies, and influence the development of governmental policies that have broad societal impact. The successful candidate possesses excellent communication skills, proven competence in driving consensus and building effective working relationships, an ability to capitalize on opportunities, strong business acumen, and an understanding of academic research and innovation.
