Research Associate in Transdisciplinary Engineering Design
Based in the world leading research team in the design and manufacturing futures research laboratory within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team characterising and defining the role of a transdisciplinary design engineer.
You will work on solving a complex engineering design problem, working in close collaboration with both industrial partners and with researchers conducting related research as part of the EPSRC platform grant on Designing the Future: Resilient Transdisciplinary Design Engineers (TREND). High quality and well documented analytical work including mathematical modelling of a complicated engineering design problem will be a crucial part of the duties of the role.
You will work map out the process to solve an engineering design programme that spans multiple disciplines and then follow the process whilst characterising and documenting the individual elements of the process and how they interact.
You will have a PhD in Engineering (or closely related discipline) and show significant evidence of having developed and then delivered high-quality research projects in an academic or industrial context. You should have expertise in mechanical design techniques and mathematical modelling as well as a wider knowledge of engineering design. You should be willing to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally.
This post is offered on a full time, open ended basis with funding up to 16 August 2020. It is anticipated that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.
