General Summary

The Research Assistant will assist in the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the “Vive” social marketing campaign.

Project: Vive is a one year project funded by the Baltimore City Health Department

Project Summary:  Compared to non-Hispanic whites infected with HIV, Latinos are more likely to present late to HIV care, and HIV stigma has been associated with reluctance to seek HIV services. In partnership with Baltimore City Health Department, the Maryland Institute College of Arts (MICA) and community leaders, we have developed the a social marketing campaign called “Solo Se Vive Una Vez” (You Only Live Once) to promote HIV testing and reduce HIV stigma

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection of process evaluation data for online marketing channels.
  • Oversee the implementation of a short clinic survey for Spanish-speaking Latino patients at the Health Department’s STD Clinic.
  • Recruit and enroll Spanish-speaking participants for a survey at community sites. Assist participants as needed in completing the survey on Qualtrics.
  • Provide the data to the supervisor in a timely manner predetermined by the supervisor and RA.
  • Provide additional support to the supervisor and/or PI as needed.

The RA may work up to 10 hours per week depending on the project activities. The RA must be able to work in the evenings and on the weekend.

Requires fluency in Spanish.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline. Some related experience required. Additional education may substitute for some experience, and additional experience may substitute for some education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula

30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
