Associate Vice-President (Housing & Retail Services)

London, Ontario

Western University is looking for a strategic team leader who is courageous, hard-working, curious, innovative, and dedicated to providing high levels of service.

Western has for many years been recognized as offering the best student experience in Canada, inside and outside the classroom. Founded in 1878, Western is one of Canada’s leading research universities, engaging more than 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students with an exceptional range of curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. Western’s beautiful 400-acre main campus provides an unparalleled learning environment for a student population that is bright, diverse, and accomplished – an environment to which the Housing & Retail Services team makes an essential contribution.

As the Associate Vice-President (Housing & Retail Services), you will report to the Vice-President (Operations & Finance) and lead a team of more than 900 full-time and sessional staff through nine direct reports. You will have responsibility for developing and implementing strategic and operational plans related to on-campus and off-campus housing, residence admissions and residence life, food and hospitality services, and campus retail services. This broad, $110 million portfolio has been exceptionally well managed, through sound strategic and risk management, superb judgment, and ongoing consultation with students. The next AVP will build upon this foundation of excellence, further enhancing Western’s reputation for providing the best student experience.

With a university degree and at least a decade’s experience leading within a complex, multi-service organization, you work collaboratively with internal and external constituents, and you enjoy engaging with young people. You understand the need for alignment among key constituency groups in executing on strategic business imperatives. An outstanding relationship builder with an entrepreneurial mindset, you are an experienced leader of leaders. You build cultures of innovation, transparency, trust, empowerment, and inclusion. A diplomat, advocate, and influencer, you will lead and mentor a team that is committed, productive, and focused on students first – a team that shares your passion for delivering excellence and for addressing challenges, both known and unforeseen. You appreciate the transformational potential of the university learning environment: bring your leadership and service ethic to a community dedicated to fulfilling that potential through outstanding student engagement across the spectrum of the university student experience.
