The Department of Natural Sciences (Chemistry Discipline) invites applicants for a full-time lecturer in Organic Chemistry starting September 1, 2018.
The Natural Science Department houses the disciplines and programs of Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Microbiology and Physics. The Chemistry Discipline offers majors an ACS approved Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, with extensive laboratory experience. The Department is home to many science majors of various disciplines, and also serves students in other programs, most especially Engineering majors and pre-Health, through introductory coursework.
Expectations for the position include full time teaching (8 courses per academic year), Organic Chemistry Lecture Sequence (CHEM 225 and CHEM 226), and in the Organic Laboratory Course (CHEM 227), in addition to substantial service obligations.
This is a non-tenure track position with a university year appointment, which runs from September 1 through April 30.
A Ph.D in Organic Chemistry; and a strong teaching record and experience teaching organic chemistry in both lecture and laboratory.
Experience working with diverse students;
Knowledge of best practices in teaching and assessment;
Field experience in organic chemistry.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
