About the Position

Position Summary


The Office of Public Affairs and Communications is seeking to appoint an Associate Director, Communications reporting to the  Executive Director, Public Affairs & Communications.

The selected candidate will play an essential role in increasing the visibility of NYUAD to local and international constituencies through targeted, strategic communications activities. Additionally, this role will represent NYUAD internally and externally through interaction with students, faculty, staff, external media, and other stakeholders. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive, multidisciplinary communications programs. Work with the Public Affairs and Communications team on all aspects of campaign development including content development, design, digital strategy, and more
  • Support the Executive Director of Public Affairs and Communications in the advancement of NYUAD’s overall communications strategy
  • Provide strategic communications counsel and assist in the development of communications materials for University leadership
  • Act as a primary press liaison for through the provision of information and promotion of the university and its programs
  • Build and maintain affiliations with external stakeholders and media outlets to ensure effective relationships are developed with key personnel and organizations, both nationally and internationally
  • Assist in the generation of positive media coverage on other university-related events, including student events and activities
  • Work with the content and digital team on identifying and managing content production across different communications platforms  
  • Be responsible for internal and external communications including producing content and copyediting of reports, publications, press releases, and media announcements, ensuring effective delivery of information to appropriate sources
  • Produce reports and presentations as required, tracking major NYUAD highlights for key audiences, continually reviewing tracking methods and presenting activity information to ensure best practice is maintained
  • Work with the design team on marketing and collateral development on print and multimedia channels, and reviewing promotional materials produced by departments across the University
  • Analyze, recommend, and implement changes and improvements to communications and strategies. Use metrics to assess and report on the success of campaigns and provide recommendations for improvements and adjustments
  • Ensure integration of various communications channels and tactics for the most effective and efficient communications outcomes


Education Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree preferred


Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role with a particular focus in the areas of strategic marketing management, public relations, and corporate communications
  • Exceptional written and oral English communication essential
  • Experience providing senior level communications support and counsel and developing talking points, messaging, and presentations
  • Excellent relationship management skills with an established communication and media network in the US, UK, and/or other major markets
  • Previous experience in a higher education institution highly preferred
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with meeting set deadlines and attention to detail is essential
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex strategic communications plans, strategies, and campaigns
