The Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences are looking to recruit a Technician to support a wide range of teaching and research activities within the School of Psychology.
Working closely with key academics, as part of a small technical team; this position will provide practical, hands-on support in the design and manufacture/assembly of novel materials within the school as well as routine training and maintenance of existing equipment.
Candidates for this post are expected to have a strong microbiology/molecular background, experience with complex experimental design, an understanding of lab management and a proactive approach to health & safety.
Experience working in microbiological containment, molecular biology (QPCR) and operating chemostats/bioreactors are desirable for this role. A post-graduate qualification, evidence of independent research in a related field would also be advantageous.
The primary focus of this job role is the safe, effective running of the laboratories. When not actively involved in managing the laboratories or delivering training to lab users; the post holder is expected to work alongside assigned researchers within the labs; supporting and contributing to their research interests. You will work closely with students, academics and other Laboratory Managers across the School of Biosciences & Medicine to ensure the smooth running of the laboratories and associated services across the School.
Adhering to current health and safety legislation and best practice at all times, you will be very well organised, practical and diligent. You will also be a strong communicator and prepared to work flexibly.
This is a 0.5fte job share role to work in conjunction with an existing member of staff.
