Faculty Positions in Engineering and Applied Science

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University ( invites applications for at least two tenure-track or tenured faculty positions in Engineering and Applied Science. While all areas encompassed by engineering and applied science will be given full consideration, there are several broad areas of particular interest, including: complex systems at the micro-bio-nano interface; energy systems; mechanobiology; multi-scale and multi-physics computational mechanics; nonlinear dynamics and control; and novel manufacturing techniques. In general, our focus is on attracting outstanding scholars, irrespective of any particular area of specialization.

This recruitment is part of a broader effort at building the group in Engineering and Applied Science at OIST. With a broad toolkit built from the richest traditions of Applied Mathematics and Engineering Science, the existing members of this group work to cut across disciplines to tackle the grand scientific and engineering challenges of our age, pursuing problems with a broad scope from the fundamental to the applied.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a suitable discipline and scholarly accomplishments appropriate to those of a faculty member at a research-intensive university. Successful candidates are expected to establish an active program of research, to supervise student research, to teach in the graduate program, and to perform university services as required . The standard teaching load at OIST is one semester-long graduate course per year. Generous research resources are provided, which may be supplemented with external grants. Starting date is flexible. Rank and salary will be decided commensurate with qualifications.
