Frobel Department of Primary & Early Childhood Education
Lecturer in Education
Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued. We are seeking two excellent academics to join our staff as Lecturers in Education with responsibility for a combination of two of the following: Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE), Sociology of Education, Development and Intercultural Education (DICE) and/or Educational Research Methods. Applicants are required to indicate preferred combinations in their application. A full-time position will be offered on the basis of the combination/s deemed most fitting for the Froebel Department.
Both appointees will contribute to the teaching of Personal and Professional Skills for Teaching and Learning (PPSTL) which prepares students for third-level academic engagement as well as supporting the development of requisite skills as an emerging professional teacher. Appointees will be based in the Froebel Department but will be encouraged to work closely with colleagues across the education departments. Candidates appointed to teach in the area of Sociology of Education will also be required to engage in some teaching and research supervision duties in this area within the Education Department, Maynooth University.
Appointees will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and Doctoral students.
Appointees will be expected to build a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. They will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.
