The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is conducting a worldwide search for the next President, who will succeed Professor Timothy W. Tong after his retirement.  The University Council now invites applications from, and nominations of, persons with relevant qualifications and experience who are interested in being considered for this position.

The Role of President

As Chief Executive Officer of the University, the President is responsible to the University Council for the overall management and development of the University to achieve the visionary goal of becoming a leading university that advances and transfers knowledge, and provides the best holistic education for the benefit of Hong Kong, the nation and the world.  The President shall assume a wide range of responsibilities covering the academic, student, financial, external relations and administrative dimensions of the University. The President is supported by the Deputy President and Provost, the Executive Vice President as well as Vice Presidents overseeing specific functional portfolios.

Candidate Profile

The ideal presidential candidate should have the vision, capability and commitment to lead the University to build on its strengths and excel in a fast-changing global environment for the benefit of internal and external stakeholders.  He/ She should be an internationally renowned scholar with proven experience in leading a large, complex higher education institution, and must demonstrate high personal integrity and moral standards.  He/She should ideally have excellent international, national and local networks with the academic, business, professional and public sectors.

The appointee is expected to assume duty in 2019.  The term of the first contract will normally be five years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
