Lecturer in Spanish
The University of Surrey is a global university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit. Inventive and forward-thinking, its heritage shows a recurring theme of going its own way, doing things differently – and achieving notable results.
The School of Literature and Languages is a vibrant and innovative School with an international research and teaching portfolio in English Literature and Creative Writing, Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting Studies, Modern Languages, Film and Intercultural Communication. Modern Languages has moved into the top ten in the most recent university guides: both French and Iberian studies are at number 6 in the Complete University Guide 2019, and Modern Languages are at number 3 in the Guardian University Guide 2018. We are seeking exceptional academics whose ambitions in both research and teaching complement those of our forward-looking School.
We seek to appoint a Lecturer in Spanish to consolidate our teaching of Spanish as part of our Modern Languages programme, to strengthen research productivity in the broad field of Languages and Communications, and to develop and contribute to our impact/public engagement activities. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and innovative subject team, with strong teaching and research specialisms in related areas such as comparative literature, transnationalism, translation and interpreting studies, and mobility.
We are looking for candidates with a completed PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area, experience of well-designed teaching at all undergraduate degree levels, and the willingness and ability to be part of the School’s research culture. The candidate will have a strong publication record and excellent research plans, appropriate for their career-stage, including the capacity to contribute to relevant impact case studies. Priority specialisms include sociolinguistics, Hispanic literature, cinema or culture, mobilities, or communications.
