The Heart Research Institute (HRI) is an internationally recognised Australian medical research institute that performs ground breaking cardiovascular research from their state-of-the-art facilities located in Newtown, Sydney and the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney. Today HRI has strong partnerships which include the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Sydney Health Partners and Kolling Institute of Medical Research. The Institute has more than 150 staff, working across 12 scientific groups, with research collaborations around the world. HRI is in a strong financial position, and is well placed to benefit from both the New South Wales capacity building scheme and the MRFF.
The Research Director provides overall leadership and mentorship at Newtown, HRI’s headquarters located in a purpose-built facility designed to support cutting edge research into cardiovascular disease. The successful individual should possess a proven scientific leadership track record underpinned by demonstrated excellence in research and funding. The Director will be expected to provide leadership and mentorship to groups within the Institute, and to maintain a research team and an active research profile in basic science. The Research Director will be provided with the scope and autonomy to build the role.
