Arts University Bournemouth is the leading professional arts university dedicated to turning creativity into careers. Offering courses in art, design, architecture, media and performance, we are passionate about our specialist subjects and dedicated both to education and the creative industries which we serve.

In support of our growing portfolio of off-campus technical resources, currently comprising a dedicated film studio and an adjoining set construction workshop, this new post, which reports to the Senior Technician, will provide technical support, advice and guidance to staff and students across a wide range of design and practice-based courses, both within and outside the Faculty of Media and Performance.

Primarily working within the university’s specialist resources on its Elliott Road site, you will ensure the on-going availability of serviceable equipment through proactive and reactive maintenance, ensuring adherence to university policies and legislative requirements; support staff and students in their creative practice, offering technical advice and supporting the delivery of appropriate technical and health and safety inductions and workshops; oversee booking systems, and contribute to ensuring access as and when required.

As the ideal candidate, you will possess a wide range of technical skills and knowledge, including interpreting theatre and film set design plans and supporting their realisation; practical experience with woodwork, joinery and metalwork; and have knowledge and awareness of fundamental health and safety at work regulations, such as work at height, electricity at work, manual handling, COSHH, PUWER and LOLER.

You will be required to complete a range of training and development, relevant to the post and environment, undertaking Continuous Professional Development to comply with legislative requirements and ensure knowledge and experience is maintained in line with industry trends.

Experience in a related professional environment would be advantageous, as would prior experience of supporting learners in a further or higher education context.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to the working day and environment as this varied post supports a diverse range of individuals and will entail evening and weekend working.

You must possess a minimum level 3 vocational qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant subject, or have industry experience in a related field, as well as GCSE grade A-C, or equivalent, in English and Maths. Due to the off-campus nature of this post, you will need to be in possession of a full UK/EU driving license.
