Health and Safety Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences for a Health and Safety Manager with strong Biological Safety experience to provide professional leadership, advice and guidance. The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences comprises the four Schools of Biosciences and Medicine, Health Sciences, Psychology and Veterinary Medicine and has a wide range of research and teaching activity requiring the support of a skilled, dedicated and effective health and safety manager. We seek an experienced and enthusiastic individual with a track record of successful safety management in a relevant scientific environment, including complex high containment/secure facilities.
As the successful candidate your expertise will provide essential support to the Schools and the Faculty to ensure continued growth and success in both teaching and research activities. You will be an experienced and confident communicator, able to drive change and influence at multiple levels with the experience of leading and developing a team, designing and implementing continuous improvements and advising senior management on risk and mitigation.
You will also undertake the role of University Biological Safety Officer acting as the main point of contact with the external Regulators and providing guidance and advice in accordance with relevant legal frameworks and statutory provisions.
You will be expected to engage with staff and students at all levels across the Faculty to promote excellent safety practice and to raise awareness and help create behaviours that deliver the highest standards of health and safety attitudes and compliance. In addition to extensive relevant experience, you will have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, be a member of IOSH and hold a recognised health and safety qualification.
