About the Job

The opportunity involves conducting a range of research activities in the Australian Centre for Child Protection within the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences. This includes contributing to or conducting high quality research; supporting research activities such as grant writing, research design and project management; and active participation in relevant Centre, Divisional and University research initiatives. You will be responsible for delivering high quality research outcomes to meet the Excellence in Research in Australia (ERA) criteria and requirements of research funders.

The position may also supervise honours and higher degree by research students, and actively engage with the child and family welfare sector to enhance the use of evidence in policy and practice as applicable.

Skills and Experience

To be suitable for this opportunity, you will meet all the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods, and experience in supporting qualitative and/or quantitative research projects.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and an ability to set and achieve priorities, monitor workflow, and manage resources to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Relevant experience in developing writings on research findings for a variety of audiences including policy, practice and academic communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and commitment to working in a collaborative and collegiate environment as part of the Centre’s research programme.
  • Previous experience in research, policy or practice in child protection or out of home care services, or with children who have experienced or who are at risk of experiencing abuse and neglect is highly desirable.


  • An Honours degree (level ARA) or a post-graduate qualification/s (level ARAS) in psychology, social work, social policy or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on research projects with multiple stakeholders.

For BRF:

  • A Doctorate in psychology, social work, social policy or closely related discipline.
