An exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate has arisen as part of a 30-month KTP with Cranfield University. This project offers the opportunity to take on research challenges in the application of robotics to support the railway industry.
Garrandale Ltd is a UK based company which designs and manufactures various systems for the UK railway industry (including carriage wash systems). The Mechanical Design Engineer for Robot Development (KTP Associate) will be based at the Garrandale site in Derby.
An exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate has arisen as part of a 30-month KTP with Cranfield University. This project offers the opportunity to take on research challenges in the application of robotics to support the railway industry. The successful candidate will also enjoy a personal £4,000 development budget.
As a KTP Associate, you will work in conjunction with the Manufacturing Informatics Centre at Cranfield University. The Centre works with industry to develop innovative products using advanced design methods.
In this role the Mechanical Design Engineer for Robot Development (KTP Associate) will lead the development of an industrial scale prototype train cab front cleaning robot, addressing the requirements of the railway industry, including H&S issues, cleaning quality assurance and cleaning productivity. This role will focus on the mechanical design challenges of the project and will work closely with another KTP associate who will focus on the control aspects of the project. Experience of robotics design will be essential in this role.
This role requires a Masters level degree in a mechanical engineering discipline or closely related subject, with experience of working on industry/university partnership projects and robotics systems as well as robotics design, alongside robotics design knowledge, ideally in a railway industry context. Additionally knowledge of a programming language (such as Java, C++,C# or python) is essential. Knowledge of Catia, ANSYS, Adams and MATLAB/Simulink (or LABVIEW) will be needed.
This role would suit an individual with good team working skills and an ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts effectively for complex systems development projects.
