Server Systems Team Manager
This role has been recently created as part of the new IT Services Operating Model. It is a critical role within the Platforms (Infrastructure) division of IT Services and is responsible for the ensuring the Server Team, which forms one of three teams in the Systems group, can meet its requirements to provide the architecture, design, build, maintenance and support of the University's core virtual and physical server estate. The team will consist of six people including the Team Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the team during a critical period for IT Services, with several high-profile projects currently being undertaken. You will be expected to assist in helping drive these projects forward, including the working on our Offsite Data Centre Project.
You will need to be a strong leader with demonstrable experience of supervising highly technical teams, and the ability to communicate effectively to people in all areas of the University, to audiences with differing levels of technical understanding. A major part of this role will be to ensure that the Systems Team is following processes and Service Level Agreements correctly and to appropriate standards, and to act, on occasion, as the main point of contact for Relationship Management with both internal and external partners.
The successful applicant will be expected to hit the ground running and function independently and autonomously from the outset. You will be expected to build a good team ethos, but also to input into both the collaborative working within the Platforms group and the wider IT Services function.
Strong experience with the Microsoft Stack would be an essential requirement. Specifically, we are looking for candidates with some (or even all) of Hyper-V, Azure, and System Centre experience. A keen understanding of Configuration Management (Puppet) would also be very beneficial. You should also have a sound level of understanding of the ITIL framework and Project Management methodologies, alongside experience of budget management and procurement.
