The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is the largest School in the Faculty of Engineering, with approximately 2600 student enrolments and a budget of over $20 million. The School has 48 full time academic staff, 27 professional staff and technical staff and 75 research only appointments. It is ranked in the world top 20 in Civil and Structural Engineering.

About the role
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UNSW is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic to conduct high impact research, deliver outstanding teaching and student experience, build industry engagement, and demonstrate leadership in the field of Geospatial Engineering. The appointee will join an existing, dynamic discipline group with a strong research focus. Exceptional candidates with expertise in any of the Geospatial Engineering sub-disciplines – surveying, geodesy, remote sensing, navigation, photogrammetry or mapping – are encouraged to apply.
The appointee will be expected to foster links between one or more of the Geospatial Engineering and Civil and/or Environmental Engineering sub-disciplines, as well as to collaborate with other UNSW groups conducting geospatial research or education. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognised research program, and to participate in the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty.
The appointment will be:
- at level D ($150k - $164k per annum) or Level E ($192k per annum), plus 17% superannuation and leave loading, commensurate with academic qualifications and experience,
- full time,
- to a Convertible Tenure Track Employment Contract for an initial fixed term period of 5 years, with conversion to continuing appointment based on satisfactory performance and there being sufficient productive work available.
The Faculty reserves the right to offer an appointment on a continuing basis or to directly appoint to advertised positions.

The successful candidate will have:
- A PhD in the Geospatial Engineering discipline, or a related field
- A demonstrated record of outstanding research with international impact
- A commitment to delivering high quality and innovative teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels
- The ability to actively engage with industry and the community
