Role Description

The School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing, is seeking to appoint a Professor of Autonomous Systems and Artificial Intelligence of international standing. The position will take up a research leadership role in the School by bringing together research in UAV’s, Space and Artificial Intelligence.

Advances in machine learning, high-performance computing, data science, multimodal sensing, and control are coming together to create enormous opportunities for intelligent, autonomous, or semi-autonomous systems. Such artificial intelligence systems are starting to achieve cognitive abilities such as language, attention, and creativity, promising to improve the safety and efficiency of systems for space technology and increasingly autonomous systems in aerospace and aviation.

To be considered for this opportunity you will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and have an internationally recognised research track record in the field of Aerospace Engineering or equivalent application of AI and Autonomy. This will be evidenced by high quality publications, and competitive research funding. You will have demonstrated experience in being able to negotiate, plan, develop and successfully implement strategic large-scale projects and win national and international research funding.

For an informal discussion, please contact: Professor Antonios Tsourdos, Director of Research for SATM / Head of the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-Physical Systems on (T); +44 (0)1234 758578 or (E); a.tsourdos@cranfield.ac.uk
