Director, Researcher Development Program
At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work. We aspire to be Australia’s global university, improving and transforming lives through excellence in research, outstanding education and a commitment to advancing a just society.
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEx) is a major 7-year initiative supported by the Australian Research Council. It is the world’s first fully integrated centre focused on a process based understanding of climate extremes. CLEx is a consortium of five Australian universities: UNSW; ANU; Monash; University of Melbourne and the University of Tasmania. We also formally collaborate with a suite of outstanding national and international Partner Organisations.
About the role
This is an exciting and unique role which will have national and international impact on developing the next generation of climate scientists.
You will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the national Research Development Program within the Centre. The key participants in the program are PhD students and early to mid-career research associates, however the program also extends to honours students and undergraduate students undertaking summer research projects as well as providing opportunities for ongoing mentoring and professional development opportunities for all Centre research staff.
You will do this by driving the strategic planning and execution of an integrated program of researcher development activities including targeted training and workshops, creating mentoring opportunities and establishing linkages for young researchers across the Centre, its partner organisations and beyond the university sector. You will ensure that students and postdoctoral researchers gain a world-class ‘value-added’ learning and development experience throughout the candidature or contract duration.
- Doctoral qualifications in climate science, atmospheric science, meteorology or similar
- Extensive experience in developing an integrated researcher development program across multiple institutions
- A professional track record in educational development and research relative to opportunity
