Swansea University
Professor in The College of Science and Head of Geography

Swansea University is a research-led institution that has been making a difference since 1920. The University has enjoyed a period of tremendous growth, reaching its ambition to be a top thirty research University in the Research Excellence Framework league table (26th in 2014).  In its recent history, the University has developed an enterprising culture that has afforded significant partnerships with industry and commerce, and also with academic institutions globally.

In this context the University is now seeking to appoint a Professor and Head of the Department of Geography within the College of Science. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a strong team in a department that is on track to become one of the foremost international centres for research in Physical and Human Geography. In REF 2014, the Department’s research impact and research environment were both judged to be 100% world leading or internationally excellent, placing it 8th and 11th in the UK, respectively.  It is one of the highest performing departments in the University and has over 30 staff and 800 students.

The appointed candidate will contribute more broadly to an interdisciplinary and dynamic environment as part of the leadership team of the College of Science.   The successful candidate will have a background in any area of Human or Physical Geography and will be a talented and inspiring research leader. S/he will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the department, in addition to developing outstanding research programmes and valuing and rewarding high quality teaching. The University is seeking applicants with a distinguished record of internationally recognised research outputs, a commitment to students and innovative teaching, and an enabling and dynamic leadership approach.
