Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) is recruiting a Project Manager (PM) with technical background with managerial tasks for the European Structural Investment Fund (ESIF) project Big Data Corridor (BDC). Aston University has been part funded by the ESIF to support the delivery of a project called Big Data Corridor led by the Birmingham City Council. Big Data Corridor project will satisfy the demand for new or improved services based on the availability of, access to and new insights gained from data. SMEs will be supported to use data to create new services and products that respond to specific challenges to deliver to beneficiaries in East Birmingham, generating social and environmental value alongside hard economic impacts. It will create new businesses, help existing companies expand and provide quality new jobs for local people.

PM will join a strong R&D team for industrial collaborations and technology transfer. You will be asked to work with SMEs on business assists, business collaboration, transfer of technology, assisting SMEs with development of prototypes and new products, and delivering project targets through direct meetings with industry and through workshops. You will join a world-renowned Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies and will be working at the cutting edge of photonic technologies and industrial applications. The responsibility mainly focuses on delivering the BDC project, search for SMEs to assist and collaborate with, to liaise regional industries, create and sustain networks of SMEs throughout the West Midland. Providing management and administrative support in all relevant aspects of BDC project activities, providing general advice and guiding to researchers involved into programs, monitoring program progress against the milestones and deliverables, organizing workshops and preparing media materials such as flyers and update content of the websites.

Minimum eligibility requirements for these roles include education to degree standard, some familiarity with SMEs and enterprise support, previous project management experience with grant funded projects, familiarity with ERDF compliance and a full driving license.
